George Friedrich Handel’s famous oratorio Messiah needs little introduction. For its spring 2025 concert, the Jefferson Choral Society, Central Virginia’s largest and most enduring adult choir, will perform the choruses from all three parts of this monumental work accompanied by a chamber orchestra.
Messiah follows the story of Christ from the prophecies of his birth, through his passion, death, resurrection and ascension, to the promise of his glorification in heaven. Among the featured choruses in this concert are “And the Glory of the Lord,” “For Unto Us a Child Is Born,” “Behold the Lamb of God,” “Lift Up Your Heads, O Ye Gates,” “All We Like Sheep Have Gone Astray,” the famous “Hallelujah,” and the majestic finale, “Worthy Is the Lamb.”
This concert is sponsored in part by Hanna Burruss, our season concert sponsor; Frances Giles, our spring concert sponsor; the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly; the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency; and the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation.
