LYNCHBURG, Va. - Due to budgetary reductions, the operating hours for the Lynchburg Visitor Center and the Lynchburg Museum, located at 901 Court Street, will shift to a new schedule effective Monday, July 7. The Visitor Center and Lynchburg Museum will be open Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Sunday, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. (always with free admission) and closed Monday and Tuesday.
The Visitor Center serves as a key resource for visitors and residents seeking information on local attractions, dining, lodging and experiences in the city of Lynchburg. While in-person availability will be adjusted, core services and information remain accessible online at
www.lynchburgvirginia.org.
The Visitor Center and the Lynchburg Museum are located inside one of the Lynchburg’s premier attractions, the Old Court House at the top of Monument Terrace. The iconic building was constructed in 1855 and beautifully restored in the 1970s. It has been the home of the City’s official history museum since 1976.
In FY2024-2025, the Visitor Center at the Lynchburg Museum served over 8,000 guests from 50 states and 34 countries seeking tourism resources, directions and local recommendations. Visitation at the Lynchburg Museum has surpassed pre-pandemic levels, further underscoring the ongoing interest in the city’s cultural and historical offerings.
Visitors can continue to plan their trip using the City’s tourism website which provides guides to things to do, places to eat and stay, group visit planning tools and blog features that highlight unique community experiences. A digital version of the Lynchburg Visitor Guide is also available for download.
Residents are encouraged to support local tourism by becoming Lynchburg Ambassadors and visiting the Visitor Center to purchase LYH LOVES YOU brand merchandise and help share the city’s assets with guests.
In 2021, the Visitor Center was relocated inside the entrance hall of the Lynchburg Museum to make more efficient use of the city's limited resources during the COVID-19 pandemic, to increase visitation at one of the city’s attractions and for the convenience of travelers trying to find both visitor services and local history.
Current exhibits at the Museum include “The Cold War and the Hill City, 1945–1991,” “Virginia & The Vietnam War,” and “The Art of Sara Wilson Saunders.” Permanent galleries feature interactive exhibits and artifacts from three centuries of local history. More information can be found at
